Retrograde Ejaculation
One of the many
sexual problems a man may experience during their life times is a condition called
retrograde ejaculation.
When a man suffers from retrograde ejaculation, their sperm tends to enter the bladder, and not emit itself from the urethra during ejaculation like other men. This condition is also referred to as ejaculation retrograde.
There are several causes for retrograde ejaculation. Sometimes retrograde ejaculation may arise from some prior
prostrate or urethral surgery while sometimes it starts because of diabetes. It has also been found that some forms of medications like drugs that are used to treat hypertension and drugs used for mood altering tend to induce retrograde ejaculation.
Retrograde ejaculation is a relatively an uncommon condition which occurs either partially or completely. There is basically no harm in the semen entering the bladder during retrograde ejaculation. It just mixes with the urine wherein it leaves the body on urinating. It is the men who have diabetes, and have undergone some genitourinary tract surgery that have a higher tendency of developing the condition.
The symptoms of retrograde ejaculation are that there will be little or no discharge of semen from the urethra when the man ejaculates in a sexual climax. Infertility is also sometimes a sign of retrograde ejaculation. Men suffering from retrograde ejaculation usually produce cloudy urine after sexual climax.
It is possible to diagnose retrograde ejaculation through a urinalysis. All that has to be done is to have a urinalysis done on urine that is obtained immediately after ejaculation. This sample usually has a lot of sperms in it. The best treatment for retrograde ejaculation will be to first find out its cause.
If it is induced by drugs, the specific drug has to be stopped wherein the condition is resolved. If diabetes or a genitourinary tract surgery is the cause of retrograde ejaculation, it may be responsive to epinephrine-like drugs like pseudo ephedrine or imipramine. However, there are some cases wherein retrograde surgery caused by diabetes or surgery is not correctable.
One of the complications that arise with retrograde ejaculation is infertility. So if you find it difficult conceiving a child, you have to contact your doctor to find out the cause for the delay. However, it may be possible to prevent retrograde ejaculation by men with diabetes maintaining a good blood sugar control. Of course, avoiding drugs that induce retrograde ejaculation too is a great means of its prevention.
