Testicular Injuries
One of the worst injuries
a guy experiences are testicular injuries. Testicular injuries may arise when playing sports, when in an accident or on hitting a big bump while on a vehicle. And the testicles, being a tender part of the guy's body, suffer from testicular injuries.
The reason testicles are so vulnerable to testicular injuries is because testicles hang in a bag outside the body, called scrotum which is not protected by bones and muscles as the other parts of the body. Moreover, its location makes it a prime target for getting struck accidentally when playing or when in exercise.
However, as testicles are made of spongy material and loosely attached to the body, they can absorb lots of collisions without much damage. Although testicles are sensitive, they can bounce back quickly wherein minor injuries seldom have dangerous effects. This is also the reason why any
sexual function or sperm production may not get affected when suffering testicular injuries.
When suffering from testicular injuries, minor injuries usually subside in an hour where the symptoms disappear. If required, some pain relievers may be taken while supporting the testicles with
supportive underwear. Application of ice packs to the area is rather beneficial too. Whatever testicular injuries you suffer from, it is better to avoid any form of strenuous activity for some time through rest.
In case you find that the pain from the testicular injuries doesn't subside, or if there is swelling in the scrotum or testicle, continuous nausea or fever, it is important to approach the doctor immediately. It is important to mention to the doctor that you play sports when looking for treatment for testicular injuries. This is so that the doctor can offer you advice and treatment accordingly.
The more serious testicular injuries are testicular torsion and testicular rupture. The testicles tend to twist around in testicular torsion wherein blood supply is cut off. It usually occurs because of heavy activities, serious testicular trauma or for no reason at all.
Testicular rupture is a rare form of testicular injury where the testicle is the victim of a direct blow. Even the crushing of the testicle against the pubic bone where blood leaks to the scrotum is a testicular injury. Surgery is the best option to repair this ruptured testicle.
With some precautions in your day-to-day active life, it is possible to prevent testicular injuries. Make it a point to wear athletic cups or
athletic supporters when playing sports or in strenuous activity for protection to the testicles. Make sure that the athletic cup is the right fit as too small or big protection does not offer any protection at all.
